Imagine a peace-filled glimpse of heavenly serenity, starkly contrasting daily strife.

Renaissance composers aimed for their music to offer this experience.

Te Deum’s “A Glimpse of Heaven: Sacred Treasures of the Renaissance,” to be performed Jan. 21 at Visitation Catholic Church, celebrates their music and offers the experience to modern listeners.

Te Deum, founded in 2008 by Matthew Christopher Shepard to fulfill a need by expressed by Kansas City singers and audiences to present sacred choral music concerts, will present 16th century treasures by Tallis, Byrd, Palestrina, Lassus, Josquin and more.

These pieces, originating from Italy, France, Germany and England, have endured the test of time undoubtably due to their profound spirituality and compositional genius.

In short, they speak to our spirits and minds.
