Our Postcards from the Midwest Conference are short and encouraging looks at what God is doing in churches across the Midwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church – Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, western Missouri, Nebraska and Wyoming. We’re celebrating faithfulness, fresh vision, and the beauty of ministry in all shapes and sizes.

Church: Christ the Servant Covenant Church
Location: 15885 S Black Bob Rd, Olathe, KS
Services: Sundays @ 9 a.m.
Pastor: Rev. Lee Jost
How would you describe your church? Unsuspecting Acceptance: We have folks who are battling addiction, formerly incarcerated, broken and healing, we are an informal gathering of Christ followers.

What’s something God is doing in your community that brings you joy right now? We have been worshiping with Pathway Community Church for the last few years. This church has sold their property to Habitat for Humanity and within two years our congregation will be meeting less than 100 yards from 14 low-income homes. We are excited to welcome our new neighbors and invite them to join an informal gathering of Christ followers.
What’s one way your church has adapted or tried something new recently? Not super recent, but we meet together, at the same time and share preaching and worship responsibilities with a Christian Reformed church. We have found it a beautiful expression of the Body of Christ. We differ on theology at times, but we both hold high value in mission and the centrality of the word. It is working beautifully!
What keeps you going in ministry these days? Hope. It is at the core of our mission “Serving hope in our neighborhood and our world.” And it is at the core of what our families need.

What’s one story or person in your church who represents your heart for ministry? One of our church families first connected with us through the Strengthening Families Program while navigating a difficult season with their teenage son in the justice system. Today, that young man is thriving – he has a beautiful daughter, a wonderful fiancé, and a bright future. His sister is now a college freshman and a dedicated leader in our church community. Both mother and daughter regularly attend services and volunteer with deep commitment. The mother often shares, “the church saved my life.” With addiction affecting many loved ones around her, she continues to find strength and healing in her faith. She now attends both Christ the Servant and another local church each Sunday, seeking support and spiritual growth for herself and her family.
